Small late 19th century sampler by Annie.E.Rayner - 1886. Worked in wool on gauze. The upper section of the gauze is stitched with four rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns whilst Annie's name and the date of March 1886 are contained within the lower section.

The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age with a small area of staining to both lower corners which is glue residue on the reverse. The colours of the wool have mellowed from their original vibrancy but the effect is still a pleasing one.The last photograph also shows some remnants of paper on the gauze from where the sampler has been glued down at some point of time.
